Alva Jarvis (1846-1926) at the corner of 2nd St. and 1st Ave NE, the same corner pictured in FI0023736. He had a government contract to carry the mail between Waverly and West Union in the 1870s, was elected sheriff, and later ran a livery stable and shipped horses to markets in the East. The home (no longer extant) behind him was built by James W. Wood in 1858; Mr. Wood died in 1862.
