The fire engine attracted children in the 1920's too. The "American LaFrance Fire Combination, Pumping, Chemical and Hose Car" arrived in Waverly in October 1921 to much excitement. A parade, complete with the city band, a sparkling new fire truck, the old hose carts and city officials progressed down main street.. Sign above door reads City Hall 1911. When built it served as city hall, and fire station, plus it once included a jail cell.
