Finish line at a harness race. Waverly has a long history of horse races of all types. For a period there were also auto races. The track at the fairgrounds appeared very early and was a big part of the county fairs. At one point the covered grandstand had to be doubled in size. There were a number of men who were horse traders, breeders, and racing aficionados. Horses were imported from Europe by Ed Knot, the Bowman brothers and others. No accurate date for photo yet, but men's short sleeves indicate 1950s.
Additional photographs and resources can be found at the Waverly Public Library on the local and family history page http://www.waverlyia.com/public-library/research/local-and-family-history-collection.aspx Accession No. 89C0027
