Photographer: Staff photographer. October 1992. "All bent out of shape- Janesville Police Chief Dennis Miller, left, points out the most damaged beams on the Janesville bridge... after a truck loaded with medical waste veered into the side railing of the narrow Highway 21 span. The vertical beam is badly bent and engineers will attempt a quick, temporary fix which they hope will allow opening of the bridge this weekend. This will be the first accident in a short time on the bridge. The first closed the bridge for several days. This accident only shut it down for a few hours the second time. The new highway bypass will not be done until next year. Until then anytime this bridge is out, traffic must detour to another highway in order to cross the Cedar River. Additional photographs and resources can be found at the Waverly Public Library on the local and family history page http://www.waverlyia.com/public-library/research/local-and-family-history-collection.aspx Accession No. 92N0050
