Waverly Sugar Co. looking south Location: 1st St NW at approximately 7th Ave. NW [north of Carnation plant.] From planning, 1905, to arrival of 1st crop took 2 years. The company's business ebbed about 1914, and in 1917 it was sold to United Engineering in 1917. Production was up and down until WW II when need provided a temporary boost. Later J. Leroy Welch & Associates bought the plant. For a time Waverly Elevator used the used the elevator and office. In 1968 the building was scheduled for demolition. Vern Schield bought a fly wheel from an engine. He set his "Sleeping Giant" on Hwy 3 E. next to his Greek windmill.
