"This Methodist Church celebrated "Astor Day" once a year. This may have been the first of the annual services. Richard Trenor, retired Rock Island engineer, assisted by Bert Fowler, night watchman, had a hobby of raising asters on the railroad property at the west end of the Bremer Avenue bridge and other places. When the asters were in full bloom, hundreds of them would be used to decorate the church on a certain Sunday. In the evening a musical service with a brief appropriate sermon would be given. This aster Sunday service became an annual occasion and was continued as long as Mr. Trenor lived, always with a full house. Back row: Merwyn George, Mrs. Holloway, Mrs. Consigny, Willard Osincup, R. V. Leach., H. L. Kelley, Fred Concannon, Dr. E. H. Kromer. Front row: Unknown, Frank Sturdevant, Oneita Baskins, John Baskins, Cora Mether, Elmer Steege. At right: Richard Trenor, Bert Fowler, Rev. Clifford Bacon." Waverly Public Library
Flag, harp, flowers, French horn, violin, trumpet, xylophone.
