L-R: Bremer County Independent: 19 July 1933. Walter (Bud) Hayes and Bert Fowler. The State Bank of Waverly was robbed in late 1928. Bank robberies were numerous throughout the late 20s and into the early 30s. The police dept. bought a tommy gun, but never used it. Chief Art Simpson later disposed of it through legal channels before he retired.
