From the Waverly Democrat of 29 Apr 1955: This photo was titled, Hey Doc, Take It Easy
The caption read: Steven Sanders of Janesville tried hard to be brave when he got his polio shot at Waverly high school Thursday morning. "It won't hurt, will it?" he asked. Dr. R.P. Hardwig assured him it wouldn't, and county School Nurse Selma Carroll put a protective arm around the boy just in case. It all turned out fine. Didn't hurt a bit—hardly. The vaccine used here was manufactured by Parke, Davis and company. The stuff looks like strawberry pop. —Photo by Jack Fairholm.
