Taken from the Waterloo Daily Courier Oct 29, 1916 "Wrestler Jacob Shaulis, wife & 8 children moved to Waterloo in 1907 from Orange Township. He operated the East Side Livery Stable (see photo # F10021964 ). He later leased the Brevort Hotel & became it's proprietor.
Oct 27, 1916 Lawrence Finley entered the hotel and shot his wife, Edith, and Wrestler Shaulis, then himself. According to a witness, the questions Finley asked led him to believe his wife was having an affair with Shaulis. His wife said before she died "I wonder why he did it'."
