According to property record the building was built in 1885. Early newspapers seldom used numbers to locate a business but rather the previous occupant or simply east or west side or Bremer Ave. The West Side Meat Market run by M. J. Jenson was greeting patrons in 1918. August Liebau [who had begun his cigar store and barber shop business in 1898 on E. Bremer] bought the building in 1920 and moved his cigar factory and barber shop into the first floor of #109 and the family lived upstairs. Bill Liebau joined his father in the shop in 1927. Bill, in turn, was joined by his son Paul in 1956. As of 2025 the shop is still owned by Paul Liebau although he retired in 2023.
