Prior to 1965 the 2 local funeral homes had transported people to and from the hospital. They then notified the city that they needed to end that service. The city then bought an ambulance which was operated by the police department. It was housed in the the fire station on 1st St. NE. Arnold Schellhorn, Chief off the Waverly Fire Department, stands by the new ambulance. BI; 1 February 1965.
