This photo of Waverly's fire department appeared in the 1896 Semi-Centennial Souvenir of Waverly, Iowa, where it was reported that the department had three hose carts with 2000 feet of hose manned by thirty volunteers, and a LaFrance engine and complete hook and ladder outfit with twenty-five men. Charles H. Barrows was the Fire Chief and a charter member of the department which was founded in 1883. The building was located on the river bank at approximately 1st St and 1st Ave NE.
