Postcard. S. H. Curtis and Sons Store, Waverly, Iowa. Top of building says, "S. H. Curtis, 1865." Store was located on E. Bremer.
NOTE: This may actually be a later photo than the one in FI0023140, taken when the signage on the front of the building has faded and the original signs began to be visible. An 1860s photo of the building shows that the first sign read "Pianos Organs & Melodeons" and the second sign read "G.H. Curtis Music Hall"; the last line of the third sign read "Music Books". Henry (G.H.) Curtis, brother of S.H. Curtis, had opened his music store on the second floor of his brother's hardware store in 1866. In 1873 he moved the business to a store of his own. Later that same year, he committed suicide, apparently as the result of financial difficulties.
