This Bremer County Courthouse replaced the small wooden building that served briefly as the county courthouse. It sat on the east side of the same block as the current court house and faced west, with a park in front of it. By the end of 1857, construction was nearly complete so the Bremer County Ball was held in the building on 1 Jan 1858. Supper was served in the basement, the first floor offices and hall functioned as reception and sitting rooms, and the court room on the second floor was the ballroom. Seventy-five couples attended. The building was demolished in 1937 after the current courthouse was constructed.
