The Carnation company located in Waverly in 1921 and had already grown larger with several additions by the time of this photo in 1948. The far left building received the fresh milk and it went into processing. Next [under the chimney] was the dryer room, then came the packing area. The 75 men and women employed there in 1948 filled 2 railroad cars a day with Carnation milk products. One former employee also remembers that the water tower at left also was the home of the whistle that blew 3 times a day. It was finally silenced in the 1960s, but Carnation and its employees carried on. Art Chandler was Superintendent in 1932. During his years in Waverly both the employees and the townspeople benefitted from his commitment to public service, He retired in Dec. 1864. No WHPC code found.
