Crowds gather at Legion Field (the old Ottumwa Municipal Airport) on North Court Road after plane NC322Y crashed there. Though the date is not known, the cars in the background indicate the event happened in the early 1930's and the plane was a Buhl LA-1 Bull Pup, a model which was first manufactured in 1932. The cars are parked along Highway 63, on the overpass where the highway crosses the railroad tracks. Though there is no firm identification of the pilot, this may have been the 1932 crash which killed stunt pilot Herbert C. Wells of Omaha during an air show.
