Photo by [H. P.] Brown & Main. Mr. Brown was also an attorney in addition to operating the Up Town Photograph Gallery which was mentioned in the paper in June 1871. His partner or employee then, Mr. Smith, then colored some of the photos using India ink. Smith, however, was preparing in 1871 to leave Waverly. The firm of Brown & Main appears to have done business from 1870 to about 1875. Mr. Brown himself left Waverly about 1875 and moved to California. In 1876 another photo studio was opened by W.C. Duryee and B.R. Barclay. Perhaps as a successor since they also used the name Up Town Gallery, but in a different location. It eventually closed in 1878. As to the identity of the two young men in the photo there is no answer as of July 2026. [no WHPC code found, use F10015695]
