Finish line at a harness race. Waverly has a long history of horse races of all types. For a period there were also auto races. The track at the fairgrounds appeared very early and was a big part of the county fairs. At one point the covered grandstand had to be doubled in size. There were a number of men who were horse traders, breeders, and racing aficionados. Horses were imported from Europe by Ed Knot, the Bowman brothers and others. Written on back of photo is 7-20-41.
Additional photographs and resources can be found at the Waverly Public Library on the local and family history page http://www.waverlyia.com/public-library/research/local-and-family-history-collection.aspx Accession No. 89C0027
