Waverly Democrat, Oct 26, 1967, pg 10. Looking east from about 8th St NW. The area, now the Green Acres and Woodring Estates, is in the lower half of the picture. The white house on the corner just to the right of Carey school was built by Wm. P. Harmon. He died in the house. From his death bed in 1864, he could look down the hill and see (as there were no trees there then) the 1st depot under construction (at W Bremer and 12th). In later years the Eldredge family owned the home. When they sold it in 1926, the parcel of land (2 acres) was offered for sale separately. No bidder could be found. In 1990 and 1991, dispute over the right to build multi-family dwellings on part of that land puts the value a bit above that of 1926. The white buildings in the lower center are the old greenhouses. Additional photographs and resources can be found at the Waverly Public Library on the local and family history page http://www.waverlyia.com/public-library/research/local-and-family-history-collection.aspx Accession No. 91N0069.
