A view of the Cedar River during the boat races held in the early 1940s. For many years a small island jutted into the Cedar at the north end of what is know Kohlmann Park. The piece of land in the foreground, known as Sharpley's Island in honor of Rev. Giles and Lily Sharpley. It gradually eroded until it was this narrow strip. An article on it and the Sharpleys can be found in the WD; 14 March 1991p5 Additional photographs and resources can be found at the Waverly Public Library on the local and family history page http://www.waverlyia.com/public-library/research/local-and-family-history-collection.aspx Accession No. 91N0259.
