Field of oat shocks. The power takeoff binder kicked out from 56 to 64 bundles a minute when oats cutting was in progress in this field on Charley Thompson's farm west of Shell Rock. Grown on what use to be a part of "Goose Lake" or "The old red pond," the oats did such a good job that the bundle drop wasn't even used on the binder. The bundles just fell as they came out, averaging one a second. Charley stands in the field here with R.C. Beaty of Waverly. Bremer County Independent; 7 August 1940 p1
