Milo Mather and Bill Bailey worked for 2 years to build one of the largest privately owned observatories in the world. They finished it in 1950 in Clarksville, Iowa. The mirror was ground in California and coated in Pennsylvania. It attracted visitors from near and far over the years. Mather died in May and after the campus is opened the observatory will be moved to to the Iowa State University in Ames. WD; 19 Aug 1960p10
