In the 1920s the Waverly Gas Co. held cooking schools for local women. They were one or two day events. In the 1930s Waverly newspapers sponsored began sponsoring their annual Cooking School. They brought in a hostess such as a home economist etc. New ideas, recipes, ideas were discussed. New appliances were shown. The event, usually held in the high school auditorium [now Crosspoint church] drew large crowds. The schools continued into the 1950s. By the 1960s the format changed a bit with more local merchants also setting up displays. The newspaper sponsored a one evening cooking school demonstration in 1976. It was held in Wartburg's Neumann Auditorium.
