The original S.H. Curtis house, shown here at 222 1st St SE, was reportedly built about 1856 by Sam Patterson. Sidney and Sarah Curtis lived in the house until 1891, when they built a new residence at 302 1st St SE, just across the street to the south. This house was purchased by relatives of Sarah Curtis in 1891, one of whom added a new porch in 1892. A photo of the house with its new porch was included in the Semi-Centennial Souvenir of Waverly book in 1896. In 1906, the property was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hiller; the house was sold to Seth Thompson who moved it to NW Waverly where it was later demolished. As of 2026, the Hiller house, with modifications, still stands, although the address is now 91 2nd Ave. SE.
