Note: Art Young worked in Carl Black's barbershop under the 1st National Bank for five years ending in June 1897. The third person in the photo is William "Speck" Black, brother of Carl. The photo appeared in the 1896 Semi-Centennial Souvenir of Waverly, Iowa, which reported that the "Elegant Tonsorial Parlors under the First National Bank...are as complete as any in the city." That included "bath rooms with hot and cold water,...a luxury par excellent to those citizens of Waverly who have not these improvements in their homes."
