100s Block E. Bremer Ave., Waverly, Iowa. Large event with attendees lining the middle of the brick paved street in a semi-circle watching a 3-person barrel race. Large American flag (with 45 stars, 1896) with a wood open structure in the background behind the crowd. Business awnings are all unfurled, and a clothier store sign reading Hiller Clothier and Tailor is on the left side behind the crowd.
This postcard was postmarked Oct 1909. The event might have been held in conjunction with the Bremer County Fair; the fair advertising promoted "the big pumpkin show" (pumpkins are visible just behind the crowd) and "all the street sports—the old and the new." Also, since there would be no "intoxicating liquors on the grounds," the downtown taverns might have been popular.
