Edward Fogarty served in the First Special Service Forces during WWII, participating in the invasions of Kiska and Italy, and was present at the battles of Monte la Difensa and Monte Cassino. He grew up and lived in Bridgeport, CT, and was featured in the local paper multiple times, most notably with a Bazooka near the Mussolini Canal. While in Anzio, these men became known as "The Devil's Brigade" due to their nighttime activities involving the harrassment of nearby German soldiers. Eddie died in Italy on June 6, 1944 due to wounds sustained during transport, when German artillery hit the vehicle he was riding in. He missed his unit's triumphant march into Rome by just days.
