Photo from a postcard dated 6 Apr 1917. Flooding occurred in Waverly on 24 Mar 1917. This photo of 1st St. NE (East Water St) shows the houses across the street from the power plant building, one of the few streets that flooded. The newspapers reported that "several boats were operated on both East and West Water Streets, but this was done for pleasure and for the novelty of the situation, after it was found that the craft would not be needed to take people from their homes or to removed goods." The house at the right still exists at 506 12th St SE.
To Mr. H. Kohl, 811 N. Main Street, Mendola, IL: Dear Friend: Accept my thanks for the photocard you sent me. It seems to me you have changed since I saw you. Did you have similar scenes in M. this spring like the one on the other side? Best regards to all: G. Doneth (sp?)
