This is a photograph taken between 1905 and 1910. The Iron Bridge was where the last lynching in Iowa occurred. James Cullen was lynched when citizens broke into the jailhouse and hung him from the iron railings on the bridge. In 1909, Charles City built a new bridge and then moved the former iron bridge to St. Mary’s St. The iron bridge was destroyed by a flood in the 1930s. In 1967, Brantingham Bridge was completed.
