90s Block E. Bremer Avenue, Waverly, Iowa, c.1905. View looking west. Multiple brick buildings line both sides of the unpaved street. First National Bank, located on the south side, is identified by a large mural with an image of a steer painted on the side of the building. On the north side, The Independent newspaper sign identifies the newspaper office, and a sign advertising the dentist's office is painted on the side of the building, which reads Dr. C.E. Hanson. Painless Dentist All Work Guaranted [Guaranteed]. Various other business signage, awnings, and electricity poles line both sides of the street. Also, on the north side of the street, numerous men are sitting and standing, having conversations, and several men are walking on the south side of the street in front of stores. Numerous horse-drawn work wagons, passenger wagons, and personal carriages are on the street. Stack of bricks on pallets on the south side of the side also.
NOTE: the date of the photo is most likely 1907. John Nix built his brick drug store on the south side of Bremer Ave (94 E. Bremer) that summer. It would be the second store west of the First National Bank building and appears to still be under construction in this photo.
