This picture of the river from Kelly St was taken in the early 1920s. Usually, pictures like this were often used as postcards to share pictures. The Cedar River was seen as a source of energy for a mill, which is why they wanted to build a city on the land near it. They built the mill on the river, Southeast of this photo (corner of Main and Riverside today), which brought people to the town.
