Printing on the fire truck says, "Waverly F. D." and "Community Fire Truck." The plaque on the hood says, "General - St. Louis." "Fire truck with four firemen parked in front of north end of fire station on 1st St. N.E. with city sheds in background." source: Waverly Public Library This was meant to be a fire truck that could be sent out to surrounding rural areas since the Waverly truck could not leave the city. The fireman worked to find the right truck and ordered it assuming that subscriptions would cover the $6,500 needed. Not enough money was forthcoming. The truck arrived, was tested and passed, Still not able to pay the debt. The truck went on display at the county fair in hopes of donations. The price couldn't be covered and the truck had to be returned. That is why the firemen are not smiling. This picture with no names appeared in the Waverly Democrat on 4 September 1931.
