Frist National Bank Building located on the corner of 1st Street SE and E. Bremer Avenue in Waverly.
"Aided by a hydraulic extension boom, two painters worked on the metal trim topping the Last National Bank building. A landmark structure in Waverly for many years, it has been undergoing improvements after falling into disrepair for the past 10 years. Attorney Oliver Reeve, whose office is across the street, claimed it was the first time in 50 years that the metal capping had been painted. Since the building was vacated by the 1st National Bank, it has served variously as an office for the Schield Bantam accounting department, as city hall, as a deli-bar and currently as a bar." For additional information see the Waverly Democrat, June 20, 1991.
In 1870, Abraham Slimmer and his partners established the Bremer County Bank. In 1891, this building was constructed for the Bremer County Bank and post office. It was designed by George Joselyn and Son Architects (who had offices in Independence and Cedar Rapids). In 1895, the bank was purchased by the First National Bank. The building is now on the Waverly Historic Register.
