Spier's Cafe next door had hot peanut oil being used to pop popcorn. The oil caught fire and flame passed through a hole in the wall. "There were two sharp explosions, the first from Lagomarcino's stock of paint, and the other from the drugs in the prescription department..." Bremer County Independent; 22 April 1942.
"The Lagomarcino drug store after the fire in April 1942 in which it and the café next door were destroyed. This photograph was passed down from Virgil Lagomarcino."
