Believed to be a photo of the 3rd and 4th grade at Lincoln Elementary school in 1915. The is based on an school report in the Waverly Democrat o25 September 1915p4. That item lists the schools and teachers by grade. Hazel Black is given as the teacher for those grades at that school. While it does not list the students it gives a total count. This is the only group that matches her count. The others are off by 2 or 3.
Jean Scheerer Magnall donated the photo to the library. However, she and her husband are both ruled out as being in the photo since neither lived in Waverly at the time. The 4th or 5th girl from the right may be Josephine Homan per a daughter. Miss Black went on to become a school superintendent elsewhere and earned her Masters and Doctorate degrees.
Additional photographs and resources can be found at the Waverly Public Library on the local and family history page http://www.waverlyia.com/public-library/research/local-and-family-history-collection.aspx Accession No. 99A0003.
