Part of the crowd of 3,000 listening to a speech by Gov. Herschel Loveless in 1958 during the annual Children's Home Festival. People came from all over to attend the annual event. Many brought home canned food to help feed the children throughout the coming year. They donated money, bought refreshments and handiwork. The children provided a brief program.
