Haehlen travelled to Chicago in November 1949, to tour various new grade schools before making decision on the school to be build on SW 6th St. [Irving elementary.] According to the Bremer County Independent; 30 Nov. 2949, the group making the trip included: J. K. Haehlen, Carl Hagemann, George Lane, H. L. Leslie and A. H. Woodring. Update: a photo found on Ancestry.com shows some of the men in different photos. Some names match but give no order.
