In the basement of the Bremer County Historical Museum sits a big vat. It is a left over from the days when the building housed the CaPhenin Chemical Co. It was used to make soap while pills and liquid medicines were made upstairs. The main building itself was built in 1863 as a hotel along the road which to become Hwy 218. The Osincup family, owners of the company, sold out around 1957 and a few years later the the BCHS bought the building and established the museum. BI; 28 September 1960.
