Construction scene [1 of 12 in series of new 1964 St. Joseph Mercy Hospital taken in 1963.]
The house pictured at the right currently sits at 828 2nd St NW, its FOURTH location. The building began as classroom space for Waverly grade school students and was built next to the Washington School which sat on the block where Crosspoint Church exists. When the school district decided to build a new high school in 1926 on that block, this frame building was moved further west to 119 8th St NW and remodeled into a home by C.H. Russell who sold it to Lloyd Simmons for $4,500. In 1946, Wartburg College purchased the land to expand its campus and Mr. Simmons moved the house to the site in the photo (815 3rd Ave SW). When the hospital expanded about 2002, the house was moved again, this time to 828 2nd St. NW.
