The foot bridge in Charles City was built in 1906. This was a wooden bridge, the suspension type, which was very common back in the day. This bridge spanned over 270 feet across the Cedar River. It was used for pedestrians and visitors' easy access to a park on the other side of the bridge. The bridge was a tourist spot in the early 20s. In 2006, the bridge celebrated its 100th birthday, and then in June of 2008. There was a massive flood that took out the bridge. Today, the bridge is used as a great walking path with a view of the Cedar River.
