East Bremer, north side, between river and 1st., looking NW. Brick street / board pedestrian ramps at corners / old street light / diagonal park. L-R: Lot 7 over years this lot was lost due to construction of bridge and millrace. Originally a small structure with partial support from pilings was located there. "Spec" Black had his barber ship there. Customers could listen to the river flow while getting a haircut. Lot 6 Miller Leather shop; M.O. Brye, chiropractor, was upstairs. Lot 5 Stufflebeam's barber shop Lot 4 Uptown cafe Lot 3 & 2 Iowa Public Service. Apartments were located upstairs over other shops. The reason for this photo was to show the lack of visibility for drivers to and from 1st St. SE, WR; 28 Feb. 1940.
Note: What looks like a scale by the cafe door wasn't meant to encourage responses of, "No dessert, thank you." Step on it and it produced the person's fortune for a coin.
