This was Waverly's first mechanized fire truck, an "American LaFrance Fire Combination, Pumping, Chemical and Hose Car," purchased in May 1921, for $10,250; delivery of the truck was made in October. The marching band led a parade through town; following behind the new truck, which carried the mayor, council members and firemen, was the old fire equipment that was to be discarded. A demonstration of the new truck's pumping power was held on the west bank of the river. The firemen pictured here (as identified by E.A. Donlon) are L-R: Carl R., Francis Alcock, Martell Beebe, George Waltemate, Wes Hinton, Charles Bills, Herman Luesenhop, unknown, Carl Shaffer.
