Parades. Main Street - Waverly, a community betterment group focused on a certain area of the business district, sponsored a Shriners' parade. Unfortunately, it began to rain at parade time. When flashes of lightning were seen some of the units were forced to pull out. It was a very short parade but those who saw it from under awnings enjoyed it. Summer 1990.
The miniature cars had "El Kahir Shrine, Hazelton, IA, We Winnies" written on them.
Crowd is under the awning of B. E. Mick's, a women's clothing store.
Bernard Eugene Mick and his wife, Patricia, came to Waverly in 1962. They bought Schlutsmeyer Ladies Department Store. Over the years, they owned several other stores, including some in Cedar Falls and New Hampton. In 1979, their son, Bob, started working for his parents and later became owner of the store. After owning it for 41 years, Bob Mick decided to close the store in 2020. The store was located at 123 E. Bremer Avenue. Source: "B. E.
