Waverly Newspaper. This house was once the summer "country" home of J.C. Garner. Mr. Garner lived in his brick home on SW 4th St. and 2nd Ave during the winter months. When the warm weather became too much, he moved his family to this house which was located on the north bank of the Cedar River in what is now (at least according to 1991 notes on the subject) Murphy's Add. Mr. Garner did not build in the house but brought it to a grand estate. By the time it was demolished in the early 1970s, it had fallen into ruin and was considered a hazard to inquisitive children. Additional photographs and resources can be found at the Waverly Public Library on the local and family history page http://www.waverlyia.com/public-library/research/local-and-family-history-collection.aspx Accession No. 91N0307.
