All of the boys of the Class of 1917 at the Waverly high school enlisted in the army or navy during WWI and left Waverly before graduation. The townspeople turned out to see them off on 12 Apr 1917. This is the note from the back of the postcard: "This one shows Norman Grassfield driving his car, Helen by his side, with the Goddess of Liberty in back. The girls with the flag in back of the car and then more of the school."
