The Lashbrook Block was built in 1884 following a fire which destroyed much of the block. The building to the far left was already a brick structure and so the firemen were able to save it. The building on the far right was also constructed in 1884 but had been altered by the time this photo was taken. It had been a mate to the Lashbrook design. C. S. Lyle bought out his partner in 1944 and the sign changed to Lyle's Food Mart. Martin Cafe replaced the Club cafe in late 1949.
