Looking south on E. Bremer between 2nd and 3rd St. I. H. McDaniel moved his Bremer County Abstract Co., left, into their new building in 1929. He also served as mayor for a time. Mr. McDaniel retired in 1950 after 38 years in the business. The abstract office has remained in the same building ever since [2026.] Pete Mueller's Cleaners was opened in 1944. For many years a large palm tree lived just inside his front window. It sprouted from a seed picked up during a vacation in California. At the time the business closed in 1950 it was about 12 years old and over 9 ft. tall. Hick's Loan Service moved into their office, then known as the Coddington building, in December 1957. Elmer Iverson Jr. was the manager. In February 1959 they left for an office in NE Waverly. During this time the building also served as office space for the Meredith Ward Agency and J. W. Coddington's law office.
