Looking northwest from 1st St. and East Bremer. The four fronts on the right were built by different owners at the same time in the mid-1880s. The "new" building on the block is on the far left. It was completed in 1908. This block was once called "Whiskey Row" because of the many saloons. It was prime real estate before parking cars became the criteria by which stores were judged. The west lots once sloped to the river. In fact, the bank once had a small lot to the west which has since been absorbed by the millrace.
